Fiji - Mobile Subscribers Receive Flood Warnings via SMS

19:08 Feb 3 2014 Nadi, Fiji

Description
Mobile services provider Vodafone Fiji Limited is now providing customers with alerts when flooding conditions threaten safety. During recent flooding in the Nadi area, Vodafone subscribers received text message alerts first as rivers approached critical flood stage and then again when rivers overflowed their banks. The messages warned Vodafone customers and advised them to seek safety once flooding was underway.

Mobile subscribers noted this was the first time they had ever received such warnings which allowed business owners time to move their stock to safety thereby saving them thousands of dollars worth of lost inventory.

Vodafone Fiji notes that they will continue to provide customers with SMS-based alerts and warnings when conditions warrant.
